Werner does comedy live on 5FM with DJ Fresh

Werner & DJ Fresh

Comedy on the Fresh Drive

So today I  was fortunate enough to do a short live on-air comedy minute with DJ Fresh and his team.  It was nerve wrecking as hell, but that being said Fresh was an awesome guy who calmed me down a little before the time.   Thanks a lot to all those who listened an sent me words of encouragement and said I did a good job.. you are all great liars and I owe you beers.

Peace & love. W

Werner was recently named as one of the Top 5 comedians according to Richard Jansen of High On Comedy.  Sure there was no voting involved and it was merely an opinion, but Richard watches a ton of comedy.  Read the whole article here

A letter from Christopher

After my debut one man show I received this letter via email from Christopher Human, below is an excerpt from the email.

Hi Werner

I just wanted to take a second to congratulate you on your 1 man show. I was there last night, and thought it was a really good performance. It was the first time I’ve seen your comedy (you came highly recommended by someone who works on the same floor as you) and neither I, nor my friends who came with, were disappointed. I really thought you should have been at the Nando’s Comedy Festival!

My friends and I were actually quoting your jokes all the way home, we haven’t done that since we saw Pablo Francisco’s “Bit’s n Pieces” DVD… ;-)

As a comedian, I could not have asked for more.  Sure good reviews are awesome, but getting emails like this from appreciating audience members is just fantastic on a whole new level.

What’s on in Cape Town – Reviews Devolution

Unbeknownst to Werner a member of the “What’s on in Cape Town” had come to see the show and reviewed his show.  Below is small excerpt:

His humour was consistent as clockwork, never crude and certainly never dull. Cape Town sometimes suffers from comedy which is overly-animated or plain crude, as though trying too hard to catch the audience’s attention. Weber is a class above, with an easy, straightforward humour and enough jokes to last him 10 shows back-to-back

Werner interviewed by High On Comedy

HIgh Flyer

headed for heights

Werner recently had an interview with an independent comedy blogger.  Below is an except from that interview.  You can read the full interview here

I recently had a sit down with local comic Werner Weber to talk about his upcoming show, Devolution: The Theory of Stupid, at On Broadway. The main reason for me doing these interviews is to feed the fanboy monster that lives deep inside of me. Comedy is my sport, I don’t care about the rugby, soccer or cricket. I do care about which comic is doing what when. So for me, these sit downs are a chance to have a one on one with my ‘sporting’ heroes.
Werner is one of those. His story just amazes me. It isn’t a sad story of a bad childhood and how he made it against all odds. Hell, he hasn’t even made it yet. It is a story of a guy who was a fan of comedy, then decided to get up behind the mic and take on the monster. He didn’t stop there. He recently started running his own gigs, gigs that will play host to international acts soon. This guy is a go getter.

The comedy evening that was the 30th of August 2011 at News Cafe in Table View was a resounding success. Most of the patrons had booked for the show for the next three months after the evening was over.  A comedy reviewer had this to say about Werner “You can see he enjoys being on stage and he has progressed more, in a year and a half of doing stand up, than some have done in five years“. You can read a full review of the show here.

Werner set to play alongside Kurt Schoonraad & Mark Palmer

Kurt Schoonraad

News Cafe Table View is proud to present the start of a monthly comedy evening every last Tuesday of the month starting 31st August 2011.

The evening opens with the musical prowess of a Table View local Matt Roux. Matt is a singer-songwriter influenced by the likes of John Mayer, Jason Mraz and Jack Johnson. Winner of the 2010 Barleycorn Songwriter’s competition Matt is quickly becoming a firm favourite in the various music venues of Cape Town.

Hosting the evening is none other than one of South Africa’s most coveted comedians Mark Palmer. Mark is a rare find in the comedy world and delivers comedy with a clean, cringe free style of humour. He is one of the hardest working comics in the country and is frequently jetting across the country to host and perform at various corporate and public functions.

The support act for the evening is one of Cape Town’s fastest up and coming acts, Werner Weber. Werner is currently in the process of putting his début one man show on the boards at the end of September. Keep your eyes out for this comedian as he delivers his alternate view on the world in a clever and quirky manner.

The main attraction for the evening is none other than the most loved Cape Town comic, Kurt Schoonraad. Kurt is regarded as one of the most diverse acts in the country and has done TV and film work aside from his stand up routines. A keen mind and sharp eye guarantees that Kurt will have the audience in stitches.

Bookings for the show is essential and can be done by phoning News Cafe directly on 021 557 6336. Entry for the show is R50.00 and starts at 20:30 sharp.
